Terms and Booking Conditions

Prices in INR. Covers the 2026 to 27 winter season and applies to gulmargskiguides.com and every booking made with us.

Agreeing to these terms

These terms apply to every package, guiding day and lesson you book with Gulmarg Ski Guides, whether you book through our website, on WhatsApp, or in person. When you pay a deposit or the full amount, you are telling us you have read and accepted what follows. Please read it first, and ask us about anything that is not clear.

About us

We have been guiding skiers and snowboarders in Gulmarg since 2013, from first lessons through to advanced freeride and backcountry days.

What is included

Your package page and your booking confirmation list exactly what you are getting. Packages vary, so the confirmation is the version that counts.

Most packages include guiding or instruction for the days you booked, plus any lift or rental arrangement we have confirmed in writing.

Unless your confirmation says otherwise, the price does not cover flights, lift passes you buy yourself, alcohol, tips for guides and drivers, gear rental beyond what is listed, or travel insurance.

Prices

We quote in Indian Rupees. A quote is valid for the dates and group size you gave us.

Prices change from season to season for new enquiries. Once you have paid a deposit and received written confirmation, your price is fixed. The only exception is a government tax or fee introduced after you booked, and we will tell you about it before asking you to cover anything.

If you are travelling solo, or your group has an odd number of people, the per person price may shift a little where a room or a vehicle is priced in pairs. We show that on your quote rather than springing it on you later.

Booking and payment

Your booking is confirmed when we have received 50 percent of the package price and sent you written confirmation.

The balance is due 15 days before your start date. If you book closer to your start date than that, the full amount is due when you book.

If the balance is not paid on time, we may release your dates and treat the booking as cancelled.

You can pay by bank transfer, UPI or PayPal. Bank charges on international transfers are the sender's responsibility, so please arrange for the full quoted amount to reach us.

Changing your dates

We will move your dates once, free of charge, if you give us at least 15 days notice and a guide is available.

A change with less notice, or a second change to the same booking, counts as a cancellation and a fresh booking under our refund schedule.

If you cancel

Here is the short version. Our Cancellation and Refund Policy has the full detail, including peak season dates and weather closures, and it forms part of these terms.

  • More than 21 days before your start date: full refund
  • 15 to 21 days before: 50 percent refund
  • Less than 15 days before: no refund

This applies whatever the reason for cancelling, including illness, a change of plan, or worry about the forecast. Confirmed road and gondola closures work differently, and that is covered below.

Late arrivals, no shows and leaving early

If you turn up late or miss a confirmed day without telling us first, that day is gone and there is no refund.

If you decide to end a multi day package once it has started, the unused days are not refundable unless a confirmed closure is the reason.

Snow, weather and things we cannot control

Gulmarg can lose the access road or the gondola at short notice. If an official closure stops your day going ahead, we will try to fit you in on another day within your trip. If that is not possible, we refund the days affected in full.

This does not cover a personal decision to stay home because the forecast looks poor, and it does not cover the normal limits of terrain and lifts that come with backcountry skiing.

We are also not responsible for disruption from government restrictions, strikes or similar events outside our control, though we will always help you find the best alternative available.

Your documents

Getting the identification and permits you need for Jammu and Kashmir is your responsibility, along with anything specific to your nationality. We are happy to point you toward general guidance, but the checking is on you.

Fitness and health

Tell us before your trip about any medical condition, injury or fitness limit that could affect your skiing. This helps your guide choose the right terrain and pace. It is not there to keep anyone out.

Before any guided or backcountry day you will sign a waiver. It acknowledges the risks of skiing in avalanche terrain and confirms that you will follow your guide.

We can decline to guide someone whose fitness, ability or gear does not suit the terrain booked. That call is about everyone's safety.

How we expect guests to behave

Treat your guides, instructors and the rest of the group with respect, and follow safety instructions in the mountains every time.

We can end a day or a whole package with no refund if someone puts themselves or others at risk, or is abusive toward our team.

Travel insurance

Get travel insurance that covers cancellation, medical treatment and emergency evacuation. Backcountry skiing carries real risk, and mountain rescue and repatriation are expensive.

Checking your own cover is up to you. We do not sell insurance, but we are glad to answer questions.

Liability

Skiing and snowboarding off piste carry risks that no amount of guiding experience removes completely. Snow conditions vary, avalanches happen, and altitude, cold and mountain terrain all play a part. Our guides follow recognised safety practice, and by booking a guided day you accept these risks as part of the sport.

As far as the law allows, our liability for any claim is limited to what you paid for the booking affected. We are not liable for losses caused by things outside our reasonable control, such as weather, road or lift closures, or the actions of hotels, transport operators and other third parties.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or injury caused by our own negligence.

If something goes wrong

Tell your guide or contact us as soon as you can. Most problems are far easier to sort out on the spot.

If you want something looked at formally afterwards, email us within 14 days of your trip ending with the details and we will come back to you properly.

Law and jurisdiction

Indian law governs these terms. Any dispute goes to the courts of Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir.

Changes to these terms

We update these terms when our services or the law change. The version in place when you confirm your booking is the one that applies to it.
